What is ORCID and why a researcher needs it

Identification of a specific author in bibliographic databases is one of the main problems for researchers. There are two main difficulties in identification:

  • the same or similar names
  • different variants of transliteration of names

In order to ensure that your research outputs are correctly attributed to you and your publications are easy to recognize and discover, a unique, open digital identifier ORCID iD has been created that distinguishes you from every other researcher with the same or a similar name to you.

Currently, hundreds of systems now use ORCID iDs. Among them: Scopus, Web of Science, RSCI (elibrary.ru), RePEc, CrossRef.

The ORCID record provides information about the name (including different transliteration options), affiliation, and research activities, and also allows you to link to your other identifiers (ResearcherID, Scopus Author ID, RePEc Short-ID, etc.). You can add your publications to your ORCID record, which allows to clearly attribute them to you.

For Voprosy Ekonomiki, while submitting a manuscript, the provision of ORCID iD is currently voluntary but highly recommended.
